Italy

The Italian oenological production is special due to the diversity of the wines which are due to the vast diversity in the geographical situations and the difference in climate. Each region is also sub divided into wine growing areas with their typical originalities.

Following quality descriptions are allowed:

DOCG - Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (protected and guaranteed origin) – is a particularly important quality description. The wines are heavily controlled and must have the country label which also acts as a quality guarantee and the number of bottles produced.

DOC - Denominazione di Origine Controllata (protected origin description) – is a recognition of a quality wine from a limited wine growing area with the same geographical name. The whole production must agree with the given laws.
