IAN D’AGATA’A GREAT VERTICALS
Some of Italy’s greatest wines ever made have been specifically selected by Ian d’Agata for this edition of Roma VinoExcellence & Merano WineFestival, such as a never-before done vertical of Brunello di Montalcino Il Poggione with bottles going back to the ’50s (a never before done official tasting by this winery), or of the Chianti Classico Badia a Coltibuono with wines from the ’60s, or absolutely mythical wines such as the Taurasi Mastroberardino 1968, generally considered to be one of the five greatest wines ever made in Italy.
Each edition of Roma VinoExcellence & Merano WineFestival will see new wineries selected and their wines analyzed over the decades.
The guided tastings have been designed for a restricted number of wine lovers only, and so only 30-45 fortunate few will be allowed in on a first reserved-first served basis. Each tasting will feature from six but most often eight to ten wines.

THE NEW WINE JOURNAL’S TASTINGS AND SEMINARS: THE NEXT RED HOT GRAPE VARIETIES OF ITALY
New Wine Journal is a fairly new internet wine magazine currently available to all (www.newwinejournal.it ) created by Ian D’Agata and Massimo Claudio Comparini. The idea was to give young winewriters and professional wine journalists a podium from which to write about wine. These individuals have been especially selected by Ian and Massimo after many years of knowing each one of them, as all have followed Ian and Massimo’s wine lectures and courses and conferences for at least four years.
The Seminars and tastings will always feature anywhere from eight to twelve wines (most often 12) and are specifically designed to have people get to know the smaller quality wine producers of Italy who often do not get much visibility in glossy magazine ads, nor do they have the money to participate in expensive world wine tours and fairs. For this reason, most of the producers of the wines will be on hand, when possible, during the tasting and will illustrate the wines and their estates to all those present. The wines are made most often from little known grape varieties and these tastings represent a unique opportunity to get to know the grapes of the future in Italian wine. The tastings will be co-guided by two of the New Wine Journal’s staff each time and will be open to a maximum of 45 people each.
